Week of 11/30/20 - 12/4/20

Learning Target: Students will be working to create a classroom learning community. Students will understand the impact that sports have had on gender in our society.

QOD: What city has the most major sports championships this century?

Circle: What is one highlight from your Thanksgiving break?

Sarah Fuller: We will be watching this video showing the history that was made over the weekend. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9XotXDeDmU

Research: You will have about 15 minutes to research the different points of view on co-ed sports. You will be reporting out what you found for arguments on both sides of the spectrum. 

Writing: You will be writing a paragraph on whether or not you believe sports should be co-ed. 

Transgender Athletes: You will be doing some quick research on the transgender athlete argument that is going on today. We will then be having a conversation about your opinions on the matter.

QOD: Who is the only athlete to ever be an all-star for multiple sports?

Circle: What is your favorite thanksgiving activity or tradition?

Issues Women Still Face: We will be reading this article today in class. We will then be having discussions in breakout rooms about what stood out. We will then bring that conversation together as a whole class.

Ted Talk: We will be watching this video on our own. You will then be answering the question posed in Google Classroom based on the video and the reading.

Thursday 11/19

Learning Target: Students will be working to create a classroom learning community. Students will understand the impact that sports have had on gender in our society.

QOD: Between 1900 and 1920, what activity, that is now a group activity common at summer camps and winter carnivals, was an olympic event?

Circle: In your opinion, what is the greatest sport in the world?

Title IX Discussion: You will start by researching what Title IX is. You will then be discussing in breakout rooms what Title IX is and what you think it has to do with sports. We will then have a conversation as a class about what Title IX is and the implications of it.

Mens & Women's Sports Statistics: You will be taking a look at this website. After reading and looking at the charts, you will be going to breakout rooms to discuss what stood out to you. Are they good things or bad things that stood out? Do you think women's sports are going the right direction or wrong direction in this country today?

Intro Video: You will be watching this introduction to the history of women in sports. After watching, you will be writing down what you think are the three most important events that Kate Ackerman talked about.
